Wild Wilderness

The following message has appeared on Wild Wilderness 'sign-up' sheets for many years. While our National Campaign against the rapidly accelerating trend towards 'Industrial Strength Recreation' began in 1997, our committment to 'undeveloped recreation' dates from our inception in 1991.

Statement in Support of Undeveloped Recreation

Many Wilderness areas are already experiencing use levels at or beyond their maximum carrying capacity. New and more restrictive Wilderness regulations are imminent.

Meanwhile, the US Forest Service is under constant pressure to provide new snowparks, ATV trails, horse corrals and other facilities to meet the ever increasing needs of motorized and other high impact recreational forest users.

We of “Wild Wilderness” believe that roadless and trailless areas which now provide recreational opportunities for lower impact users should not be indiscriminately developed to satisfy the appetites of other, more voracious, user groups.

Our mission is to protect these areas, to eliminate vehicular trespass and to restore the “Wild” in Wilderness.
