In less than 24 hours the Forest Service staffers most directly responsible for facilitating the privatization and commercialization of outdoor recreation will gather with their industry partners. American Recreation Coalition President, über-lobbyist Derrick Crandall, will deliver a talk titled: "Big Picture Recreation - What's the Future." Undersecretary of Agriculture Mark Rey, Crandall's junior recreation partner, will deliver the keynote.
For two fun-filled days, agency personnel and industry leaders will conspire behind closed doors and a good time will be had by all. The American Public will, as always, be left out if the process entirely.
Pasted below is about all you are likely to ever know about the 2008 Partners in Outdoor Recreation Conference which begins tomorrow in San Diego.
Do you think it important that you knew more?
Do you wish you were represented??
Do you believe you deserve to have a vote and a voice???
In 1992, speaking at the 75th Anniversary of the National Park Service conference, conservation hero Michael Frome said:
Let us go on from this conference to rescue everything that still remains wild and to recapture a lot more that has been lost. Let us not privatize the parks with the goodies of Disneyesque "partnerships" and the strings attached to them."
-Michael Frome
Imagine how different the world would be if America had followed Frome's sage advice. Let us now recapture that which has been stolen from us.

NFRA's 2008 Conference
Celebrating our Diamond Anniversary - 60 Years Strong!
NFRA will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary at their Annual Conference and Trade Show,
March 4-5, 2008 in San Diego, California. Join us in celebrating this milestone occasion!
What's the Conference All About??
The National Forest Recreation Association’s Conference is the best
conference of its kind for resorts, campground concessionaires,
marinas, stores, organization camps, pack stations, and other
recreation service providers who operate on federal lands. Top
recreation leaders from the Forest Service and the recreation industry,
on-the-ground permit administrators, and private sector recreation
businesses come together to hear about new programs, to discuss better
ways of working together, and to keep up with trends in the recreation
industry.
For many Forest Service permit administrators – this is where they
learn first hand about Recreation Special Uses changes and policies.
They also hear from industry experts about trends in travel and
tourism, changes in the insurance industry, and other ‘business’
related aspects of the recreation operations.
For permit holders – it is an excellent opportunity to network with
other business owners who have Special Use Permits, talk one-on-one
with the leaders on recreation from the Forest Service, and gain
technical skills to help them improve their bottom line.
San Diego is reknown for being sunny and warm when snow and fog still
covers the rest of the nation. Come - enjoy the Conference, help
celebrate our diamond jubilee, and meet with friends.
