Public sees though park funding lies
Written by Scott Silver

Perhaps there's hope after all.  It appears that the general public is not merely paying attention, they are questioning the lies they are being told. In spite of the mass-media now extolling the wonders of the President's almost entirely FRAUDULENT National Parks Centennial Initiative and even with such newspapers as the New York Times now going so far as to actually compare President Bush's environmental legacy with that of Teddy Roosevelt, the man in the streets smells a rat and knows things are not as they are being presented!

On the WashingtonPost's website there's a lively exchange of reader comments about an article titled "Bush Seeks Public-Private Funding Boost for Parks".

A sampling of reader posts appear below and I invite you to add your own thoughts using the link I have provided. To learn more about this fraud, explore recent posts on this blog.

Something here really stinks. This has got to be another Trojan horse bill. Bush/Cheney and their enablers have a pattern of enacting bills that are completely opposite in the results than the intention implied in the titles of the bills. My guess is that Bush really wants to sell government land and to use existing parkland for purposes that are not ecologically sound or in the best interests of the country.

Cut out Bush and companys mindless, tragic war and you have plenty of billions to pay for parks, medicare, etc, etc, etc and without asking for private donations. I pray that Bush is satisfied now that he has killed the man who threatened his father. What a good, brave son. He has truly earned his legacy as the worst president ever, surpassing even Carter. Hmmm, I wonder why we have young Americans dead, billions of dollars wasted over that nasty Saddam when the evil Idi Amin, et al didnt elicit such a response? Could it be oil?...nah, we just didnt want to spread democracy to Uganda wouldnt be prudent. Bush Jr. could be a tad more prudent, opps too late...would have helped if he had put down all those Shakespears hes been reading and picked up a history book. No wonder Laura smokes...

Devils is always in the details as they say. Is it even possible to raise $100 million every year for 10 years from the American people for parks ... I mean have they done a feasibility study, doubtful. So National Parks are going to have to get in bed with corporate America to raise 1 billion. Look for the Bush Administration to flip the long standing official and unofficial policies about National Parks not accepting donations from industries like Oil/Gas, Alcohol/Tobacco and companies seeking to do business with the parks. Also ... someone should look into the National Park Foundation that has been identified to lead the fundraising. With just a quick google search you find that Laura Bush, her best friend, and Tommy Franks are on the Board. Plus the Foundation apparently does not meet all the Better Business Bureau standards. Check out What happens if National Parks can not raise the private sector match ... does the Federal match for parks disappear aka: get shifted to Iraq?

It sounds like another part of the coming to fruition of Republican World, where everything from public schools to highways to national parks are sold to private sector sponsors who in turn will charge us fees. It started with Ronald Reagans initiation of charging fees to enter the Parks I am old enough to remember when National Parks were free because they were... well... National Parks. Next came the higher and never ending tolls on the nations highways. Tolls were supposed to be lifted once the bond issues on a particular roadway or bridge had been retired, but keep finding new life as endless revenue sources. Now there are talks of selling roadways in Pennsylvania to private firms and for Lexus Lanes in Maryland. Next, I guess, much like FedEx Field, National Parks will pick up private corporation monikers such as Disneys Yellowstone National Park, the home of the Tostitos Old Faithful Geyser. Im sure Teddy Roosevelt is turning in his grave. Please tax us for the cost of running the nation and stop the endless user fees and the selling out of America piece by piece to corporations who send all of our jobs overseas.

How can any sane person present such a blatant lie as this to be published in a newspaper? From the story: Snow says,Theres been a lot of misreporting, or perhaps it just hasnt -- perhaps folks have not taken notice of the fact that this is an administration thats been keenly committed both to environmentalism and conservationism from the start. Mr. Bush is hoping that the philanthropists will call in their chips after donating to the parks, and demand the kind of recreational opportunities that the ridiculous Hoffman outlined in his attempt to destroy the Park system. New roads, new ATV trails, the opportunity for reckless commerce. Wildlife and rivers and beautiful landscapes just dont pay the best return on the dollar. Its about profit, its about Mammon, its not about preserving anything, or having a place for citizens to see the wonders of creation. Not enough economic dynamism in that plan. Lets creep in the backdoor with a plan that looks good...as weve done over and over again. What was it Bremer said about Iraq? good policy, but implemented wrong... Yeah. Right.
