Pasted below is my reply
There must be a reason WHY this is true -- i.e., why environmentalists
are saying such things.
I'm going to offer one possible explanation and YES, this is relevant to Wilderness.
This issue directly impacts the future of
designated Wilderness and how those wilderness lands will be managed in
years to come.
And as the old sayings go:
- "He who pays the piper calls the tune"
-AND/ OR-
- "He who dines with the devil best have a long spoon"
The reason some environmentalists are saying that they don't care how much
it costs, or how many bad precedents it sets, or care about the implications for the
future of Wilderness is because they are no longer calling their own tunes. The
reason they are saying these things is because their spoon was too
short.
Simply stated, those who are accepting unacceptable compromise are, I
suspect in most cases, accepting funding they should never have
accepted -- funding that is "tainted".
To learn who is funding specific environmental organizations, the best
sources are the anti-environmental web sites www.green-watch.com,
www.capitalresearch.org, www.undueinfluence.com (Forget the
analysis on these sites -- these guys are no friends of Wilderness. But
the raw-data is reasonably reliable or is, at least, a good starting
point for further research.)
To learn who these environmental funders are, from where their money
arose and what were the philanthropic/ ideological motivations of the
original families/ individuals who created these foundations -- takes more
effort. It takes a lot more effort. It's a topic I have been
researching for several years and though my files are bulging with
information, I expect some in the environmental community would refuse
to acknowledge that money from these sources is tainted.
And once again -- there must be a reason WHY this is true
